78th UNGA: Salako to Represent President Bola Tinubu at a High-level Meeting for Nature and People

The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako will be representing President Bola Tinubu, at high level meeting for nature and people at the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Speaking with, the Personal Assistant to the Honourable Minister , Agba’kin Wale Junaid, disclosed that his principal is one of the Federal government officials participating in the 78th UNGA to seek strategic partnership, billateral collaboration. He added that Salako will, on behalf of President Tinubu, update the global community of Nigeria’s efforts at climate mitigation and adaptation.

“He will be demonstrating Nigeria leading role in Africa and in the West Africa sub-region on the conservation and sustainable use of the”marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction, Junaid noted.

The minister will also participate in the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Ambition Summit to join other world leaders to talk about key climate action, targets and milestones like Nationally Determined Contributions, Energy Transition Plans, fossil fuel phase out plans, renewable energy targets and economic wide plans on climate adaptation and resilience.

His Aide added that “Dr Salako is also scheduled to participate in the Commonwealth Ministers of Environment and Climate Meeting, High Ambition for the High Seas, High level event on building economies for the future and similar multilateral high level events. He will also hold billateral meetings with colleague ministers from other countries and development partners within the environment and climate change thematic areas.”

Overall, it was stated that the minister hopes to focus international attention and mobilize more support for the ambitious climate agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end the super dependence of Nigeria on fossil fuel
