Desire by the incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun to make an appreciable showing in Saturday’s gubernatorial polls may have hit a brickwall as efforts by Senator Olamilekan Adeola to persuade Yewa-Awori people to vote for All Progressive Congress (APC) failed spectacularly.

Adeola recently won the Ogun West Senate Seat under the APC. On Wednesday, he called on leaders of youth groups, CDAs, women and Okada riders in Ogun west into a meeting at Ilaro, in an attempt to persuade them to vote for Dapo Abiodun of APC .

A source at the meeting told NigerianEcho that Adeola gave two reasons why APC must get their votes on Saturday. He frantically spoke on why he wanted to work with an APC governor to make his task in Abuja easier. Sources claimed the meeting was necessitated by the determination of most Ogun west voters to queue behind their kinsman, Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the election.

However, his explanation was said to have repeatedly met with boos and murmurs from his audience who saw no wisdom in abandoning their kinsman for Dapo Abiodun from the Remo axis.

Some of those at the meeting were also said to have reminded him of the marginalisation of Ogun West people who have never ruled the state since its creation in 1976. An embarrassed Senator Adeola who had to rush back to Ilaro from Alimosho where he was recalled for election rescue mission, practically begged his audience to vote for his party. However when he discovered that he was talking to unyielding people, he urged them to give it critical thinking.

He thereafter gave N10m for the “crowd” to share to assist their decision making.
