Three Years After The Death of Ondo Prince, Killers Arrested

Even though it took the Nigerian Police three years, the killers of Prince Richard Awofisayo were eventually arrested and araigned. Prince Awofisayo, former Managing Director of Ore-Irele Oil Palm plc, was kidnapped and killed by his abductors three years ago even though a ransom of 12Million naira was paid to secure his release.

The Nine people who were charged  with the murder of Awofisayo include Adesulimo Sesan, Alonge Kayode, Oluwatobi Omobamijo, Afolabi Oladipupo, Victor Okoro, Kehinde Olasanoye, Ismaila Bakare, Akinola Ojoele and Mrs Funmi Afolabi.

The Court was told by the prosecuting witnesses how Awofisayo was kidnapped and initial ransom of N5million was demanded. The family, according to the elder brother of the deceased, Prince Albert Awofisayo , paid the money only for another demand of N5Million to be made. In all, the family parted away with N12million without the deceased being released.

In the confession statement of one of the accused, Omobamijo, he said that four of them agreed to kill late Awofisayo and burnt his corpse so as not to leave any traces that may expose them.

Though the rest pleaded not guilty, they were however charged with murder contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 of the criminal code cap 30 volume 11 laws of the State. The case will come up for hearing on June 4th.
