N75m Scam: Court Sentence Fraudster to Four Years Imprisonment
A fraudster, Okeke Oscar Nkem has been sentenced to four years imprisonment for attempting to obtain the sum of 500,000 US dollars by false pretence. Justice Abdulahi Shuaibu of the Federal High Court Kaduna delivered the judgment in a case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in June, 2008. Okeke was arrested at a cybercafé in Owerri, Imo state capital following nation-wide raid tagged ‘Operation Cyber-storm. The convict had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
Okeke was alleged to have fraudulently presented himself as Mark Wrangle, a manager of an Australian bank through which he was demanding as sum of $500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand US Dollars). The convict also fraudulently presented himself as Emeka Henry, an accountant with Oceanic Bank and sought to transfer the sum of $450 (Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand US Dollars). EFCC called one witness and tendered several documents which indicted Okeke.
