Lagos to Impound Tankers on Apapa–Oshodi Express way
Lagos state government has issued a 4-day ultimatum to owners of tankers parked on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway to remove the vehicles or have them impounded by midnight of Sunday 6th May, 2012.
Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Kayode Opeifa made the disclosure at an emergency meeting with members of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, (NUPENG) and officials of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, (RTEAN).The transport Commissioner said that government could no longer fold its arms and allow lawlessness and recklessness by truck owners and drivers who constitute impediments to government’s commitment to ensuring that Apapa expressway through to Ijora Bridge is free of traffic. According to Opeifa, “we want to see that the road that leads to Tin Can is also free and that the police station at Ijora to Port is free of traffic. We want to see that tankers on Creek Road are evacuated so that the road can be free”.
The Commissioner said that shanties under Liverpool Bridge be cleared and stressed that officials of the Kick against Indiscipline (KAI), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other government agencies had been fully mobilized to carry out the directive to rid Apapa-Oshodi Expressway of indiscriminate abuse by trucks and tankers by midnight of Sunday 6th May, 2012.
