Kano arrests promoter of “New Mecca”

Kano State Government has arrested six persons in connection with the Wailari ‘new Mecca’ in Kano, according to the Commissioner for Information, Professor Umar Faruk Jibril said yesterday.
Concerned Muslim clerics and Kano residents have reported that some “locals” habe been trooping to a farmland in Wailari in Kumbotso local government of the state to “perform hajj rites” which started when a dissident group tagged the place as ‘new Mecca.’
NigerianEcho however learnt that ‘new Mecca’ has been sealed off and that those arrested are in police custody. Kano state police command spokesperson ASP Magaji Musa Majia however confirmed that those arrested have been released but they are placed under close watch to avert any form of danger.
