Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala on Sunday night officially confirmed the kidnap of her mother, Professor Kamene Okonjo.

News broke yesterday afternoon that Professor Kamene Okonjo, a professor of Sociology who retired from University of Nigeria Nsukka was abducted right inside her palace in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State around 1:30pm when about eight gunmen reportedly stormed the palace and forcefully took the woman away.

“No possibility can be ruled out at this point.”

“This is obviously a very difficult time for the entire Okonjo. But the family is hopeful of a positive outcome as it fervently prays for the quick and safe return of the matriarch.”
