Boko Haram Insurgency Will Soon Be History- Minimah

Nigeria Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah, has said the war against the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast part of the country will soon be over, with the deployment of more troops to the troubled region.

The army chief said this in an interview he had with Channels Television during the graduation ceremony of Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers from the Nigerian Army Warrant Officers Academy, Jaji Kaduna State, the Chief of Army Staff expressed satisfaction with the brief he got from the troop commanders during his operational visit to troops battling the Boko Haram terrorists in Borno and Adamawa states on Thursday.

Although in the interview, he declined to make his findings from the field commanders public, General Minmah said that intelligence reports at his disposal showed that the troops would soon wipe out the insurgents from all parts of the northeast.

He explained that the visit was to encourage and boost the morale of the troops and commanders for their performances and bravery which had turned the tide against the Boko Haram terrorists and their accomplishments so far.

Meanwhile, addressing the graduating officers, the Chief of Army Staff, urged them to utilize the knowledge they have acquired during their training in the fight against insurgency and other security challenges confronting the nation.

He told them that the current security challenge in the country requires their professional expertise in bridging the gap between the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army.

The Army Chief also presented awards to distinguished graduating officers. It was also a busy day for the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin at the Armed forces Command and Staff College, Jaji where he admonished junior military officers participating in the fight against insurgency in the northeast to abide by the rule of engagement and Armed Forces Act in order to avoid violating the fundamental rights of the civilian populace.

Addressing graduating students of Junior Course 79 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Vice Admiral Jibrin reminded them of the tougher tasks ahead of them and the need for them to be alive to any emergency situation that may arise at any given time through team work, integrity and excellence.

He told the officers on the need to be courageous enough to confront the Boko Haram terrorists in the northeast in a more professional manner.

The Armed Forces Command and Staff College Junior Course 79 commenced training on January 7, 2015 with 149 students, comprising of 65 Nigerian Army officers, 45 Nigerian Navy Officers, 28 Air Force Officers and 7 non-military students as well as four allied officers from the Republics of Benin, Togo and Gambia.

The graduation signifies the end of 22 weeks of intensive training and academic activities for them. The course curriculum has been reviewed in line with the changes in the senior course curriculum.
