‘Wrecking Ball’ Rockets Miley Cyrus to Number 1 Spot on Billboard

Miley Cyrus’ new controversial video of her song ‘Wrecking Ball’ has succeeded in catapulting the song from the number 22 spot to number 1,displacing Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ to second place after two weeks on the Top spot.
‎The song is Cyrus’ first number one single after ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Party in The USA’ both peaked at number 2 in 2013 and 2009 respectively.Miley Cyrus

The video also made a record-breaking start, drawing 19.3 million global VEVO views in the first 24 hours after its Sept. 9 posting, and opened with 477,000 digital downloads,only second to Perry’s ‘Roar’ which opened with 557,000 digital downloads this year.

Number 3 on the Hot 100 is ‘Royals’ by Lorde while Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred lines’ follows at number 4, Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ and Jay-Z’s ‘Holy Grail’ are at numbers 5 and 6 respectively. Numbers 7,8 and 9 spots are occupied by ‘Applause’ by Lady Gaga, Eminem’s ‘Berserk’ and Drake’s ‘Hold on,we are going home’ respectively.
Lana Del Rey & Cedric Gervais ‘Summertime Sadness’ rounds out the Hot 100’s top 10.
