Top School Admission for Arik Stowaway Boy in Edo State
The Edo State Government has secured admission in one of the state’s top secondary schools for 13-year-old Daniel Oikhena, who stowed away in the wheel well of an Arik Aircraft. Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, stated this while receiving the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Mr George Uriesi, and his management team on a visit at the Government House, Benin City, yesterday.
The stowaway who is currently staying at the Edo Government House, Benin City, told state house correspondents that his aspiration is to become an Engineer. He also said he wants to go home and start school now that schools have resumed.
The Governor in his speech stated that Edo State government is not encouraging a repeat of such incident by getting Daniel an admission “without meaning to encourage anyone else, we decided to support him by sending him to one of the top secondary schools in Edo State owned by the government. The reason for opting for a boarding school is that we think there is need to closely watch him, something his parents could not do.
Comrade Oshiomhole described the boy “He is an intelligent young man with uncommon challenges, but one who has a vision. We had him examined by people who should know and the result confirmed that he is normal”.
The Governor further told the FAAN management team who came to Benin City for ground assessment of the stowaway incident which has forced FAAN to review and improve on its security arrangements. “This incident was probably the kind of trigger we needed to improve facilities at our Airports. You are never going to have all the money you need to do all you have to do. You should start from somewhere”
