Three killed, Houses burnt As Crisis Rocks Ogun Community Over Selection of Monarch
Agosasa, a town in Ipokia Local Government Area has been on the edge since the demise of the last King. Sources informed NigerianEcho that a man called Otunba Sunday Abogunrin had been chosen by the kingmakers of the town and is undergoing the necessary rituals in IPEBI leading to his installation as the King. A prominent Chief in the town, Otunba Akeem Adigun also called Socopao, who is a strong ally of Governor Dapo Abiodun not pleased with the decision of the kingmakers brought another man though an indigene of Agosasa but resides in Republic of Benin to be the new king. His decision to bring another person led to a fracas on Sunday September 11, 2022, but the situation was brought to normalcy later in the day.
Trouble started again on Monday morning around 11.00 am, when Adigun on his way out of town along Agosasa-Ibatefin road met a young man called Nafiu Amosun who was one of those who opposed Adigun’s choice. Amosun, who was on a bike, immediately ran for his life on sighting Adigun’s convoy consisting of two Hilux vehicles.
According to Saka Agemo who rode the bike, the convoy chased them until they were knocked down by the Hilux and the police officer attached to Otunba Akeem Adigun shot the young man Mr Amosun severally until he died. The rider of the bike who carried Mr Amosun ran for his life and alerted the community and this led to riot in the community.
Another ally of Otunba Akeem Adigun, simply known as Seripa, tried to break the ranks of people who were protesting the death of Mr Amosun by shooting at them. He shot two persons ,Rafiu Fadeyi and Saka Bamgbose . While Saka Bamgbose is critically injured and receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital, Rafiu Fadeyi could not make it, he died on the spot.
As a result of the incident, one of the elders of the town, Alhaji Fati Ajibola (the Akogun of Ipokia land), has been detained by the Department of State Security Service (DSS). According to his wife, Hon Sikirat Omowunmi Ajibola, a current member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ipokia State Constituency, the Governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun through the ministry of local Government and chieftaincy affairs Invited Ajibola and other chiefs from Agosasa for a meeting over the crisis. She said rather than a meeting, the Governor simply ordered that the chiefs be detained.
