Salako fulfils New Year Green Resolutions, Plants 10 Trees in Ogoni Land
Charges Students of Birabi Grammar School To Plant and Nurture Trees
As part of his personal commitment to climate action and in line with his “10 New Year Green Resolutions”, the Honourable Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has planted 10 trees in Ogoni land, NigerianEcho has learnt. Salako had told Nigerians that he would plant at least 50 trees this year as part of his new year resolutions, tagged, “Calling On Nigerians To Go Greener In 2024 By Adopting Green New Year Resolutions”.
On Wednesday 24th January, 2024 as part of his official tour of Hydrocarbon Remediation Projects (HYPREP) in Ogoni land, Salako stopped over at Birabi Memorial Grammar School, a flagship secondary school in Ogoni land to plant 10 trees in partial fulfilment of his year 2024 GREEN RESOLUTIONS to personally plant at least 50 trees in the year. He is planning to plant the trees in all the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
The 10 trees he planted in Birabi Memorial Grammar School (BMGS) are therefore for South South geopolitical zone of the County.
The Honourable Minister motivated the students who are members of Green Frontier Club of BMGS financially and materially to see to the nurturing of the trees to adulthood.
While motivating the students, Salako said, “ As part of my personal commitment to climate action, I want to encourage each one of you to take a personal decision to also plant at least one tree this year in your various communities. Not only plant but also nurture those trees to ensure that those trees survive.
“I want to count on you, as I plant these trees in this school to take care of them. I am going to count on you to nurture the trees to survive so that they grow and become real trees that can help in ameliorating some of the challenges of biogas emissions.”
Salako said he was happy to be in their midst and promised to be back very soon to see how well the students have nurtured those trees and to what extent they have grown.
