PDP Crisis: Baraje faction Lawmakers move against NASS leadership
Palpable fears is enveloping the National Assembly as members resume due to the split in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). This tension and fear is triggered by the possibility of a leadership change in the House of Representatives.
In the wake of the emergence of another faction of the ruling party Twenty-two senators and 57 members of the House of Representatives recently publicly lent their support for the Baraje faction of the PDP. NigerianEcho learnt that the 79 lawmakers and many others that are sympathetic to their cause are billed to meet at a venue that is being kept in secret for security reasons. The meeting is billed to hold today (Monday) to deliberate on the leadership change and the future of the ruling party in the National Assembly.
A reliable source close to some of the 57 NASS member loyal to Baraje-Led PDP informed NigerianEcho that there is a plot to make some changes in the leadership of the lower chamber of the parliament, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, and Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Leo Ogor, are already targeted for removal. The Speaker of the House, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal is exempted from the hit list apparently because of his all-inclusive style of leadership and perceived sympathy for the Abubakar Baraje-led faction of the ruling party. The fate of other principal officers in both chambers is billed to be determined at the proposed meeting.
Feelers from the group shows that they may not move against Senator David Mark as long as he remains neutral, but it may never be same again for leaders of the House of Representatives. Some of member of the Baraje faction in the National Assembly disclosed that the group was poised to put the leadership of the Senate and the House on their toes by asking each and every principal officer to declare his or her position on the crisis rocking the party.
