More Troubles For Anambra APC: Godwin Ezeemo Is An Ex-Convict Says Petitioner
Barely 48 hours after the gubernatorial Appeal Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) cleared one of the governorship aspirants, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, announcing his eligibility to contest in the party’s primary slated for September 2nd, a petition including his criminal record and conviction in the United Kingdom emerged.
The petitioner is calling for his outright disqualification in accordance with the electoral law and party constitution. The petition according to a reliable source close to NegerianEcho was written by a concerned prominent member who is worried about the implication of fielding such a “character” by the Anambra chapter of the APC.
The “fellow (Mr. Godwin Ezeemo) has been convicted by a Basildon Crown Court in the United Kingdom (November, 2011) and the conviction was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division), the Royal Court of Justice, Strand London United Kingdom.The Court of Appeal hearing judgement was by Lord Justice Pitchford, Mr. Justice King and Mr. Justice Blair.” The source who would not want her name in print said.
The judgment was delivered by the Court of Appeal on October 16, 2012 according to the exclusive court document in our possession (see Appendix A).
“Isn’t worrisome that Ezeemo is a serial criminal? You can imagine how recent his conviction is. We must rid our party of characters like this if salvaging our nation is a major assignment for our party” The petition was addressed to the National Chairman of APC.
The party’s Primary Screening Committee had stated earlier that the party has chosen a candidate for the November 16th governorship election in the person of Senator Chris Ngige, a decision that prompted some party faithfuls to protest, joining Mr Ezeemo in his protest in what was termed as imposition of candidate.
