Mayhem as Okada, Tricycle Operators Clash in Onitsha

Sharing is caring!

Hell was let loose in Onitsha as commercial transport operators clash over revenue collection in the commercial city of Anambra State on Tuesday. The clash involved operators of tricycles and motorcycle who were at dagger drawn over revenue collection at the Aba Park along Onitsha/Owerri Road. Eyewitness account told Nigerianecho that the intervention of some members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) prevented the incident from degenerating.

The clash was said to have left a number of tricycle badly damaged while a handful of individuals sustained injuries. Unauthorized and Illegal collection of revenue by commercial transport operators; particularly motorbike riders popularly known as Okada have been a major cause of public mayhem in Onitsha. NigerianEcho gathered that failure of authorities at state and local government levels to adequately regulate collection of revenues continue to fuel clashes amongst commercial transport operators who exploit the situation to negative advantage.
