Manchester City will not Extend Yaya Toure’s Contract
Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has revealed Yaya Touré will not be offered a new deal by the club.
The midfielder had claimed to be unhappy at the club at the end of last season, when his agent complained City had not given him a birthday cake.
In the past few days, the club has renewed the contracts of Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, David Silva and Vincent Kompany, but see no reason to extend Toure’s current contract, which expires in two years, as he will be 33 by then.
Manuel Pellegrini said: “I think it is very important for the club to retain the best players. I think it is also important for the club that they want to stay here because they are working very well and this is a club that has a lot of ambition for the future. They understand that and maybe you will know in the next few days about other players who extend their contracts.”
When asked about the Ivorian’s agent’s controversialstatement after his birthday, the Chilean said “I think that at this moment it is not important. Really, I spoke with Yaya and he’s very happy, I don’t know what happened in the summer. Some people talked about his position but really at this moment he doesn’t have any problems. It has passed. It doesn’t matter at this moment.”
Having added Eliaquim Mangala for £32m, Fernando for £12m, Bacary Sagna on a free transfer, Willy Caballero for £6m and Frank Lampard on a half-season loan, Pellegrini also insists he has the right players and believes his squad is far stronger than last season’s title-winners.
