Lagos Cabinet: Group Berates House of Assembly Over Dropped Nominees
A popular pro-democracy group, Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), has expressed dismay over the refusal of the Lagos State House of Assembly to clear 17 out of 39 cabinet nominees forwarded to them by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, warning the House against actions that may be viewed by the people as sabotage.
In a statement on Sunday in Lagos, Convener and National President of the group, Comrade Razaq Olokoba said, dropping of the nominees the Governor considered as good hands to work with appears as if the House has another reason for their action beyond the fact of incompetence, advising that, the best relationship expected between the Executive and the Legislature is strengthening of the cordial synergy that has been existing between the two in Lagos State this while.
According to the statement, what makes the development worrisome is the possible setback it may cause to the progress of the state and the commitment of Governor Sanwo-Olu to make his second term better than the first term, asserting that the governor has started showing signs of seriousness about his assurance to walk his talk as usual of him.
“The governor, who promised a better second half must have known those hands that are better for the project before forwarding their names for ratification. So, with the unsavoury development on our hands now, who could dare blame the governor should he fail in fulfilling his promise?” the statement queried expressing dissatisfaction that, “the governor that has hit the ground running is being dragged back and thereby causing the populace a great concern and pain!”
The group was reacting to the news that hit the airwave that, 17 out of the 39 cabinet nominees of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu were not cleared by the House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Honourable Mudashiru Obasa. Among those dropped were the last information Commissioner, Mr Gbenga omotoso, his Health Counterpart, Professor Akin Abayomi, adviser to Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyooye and 14 others.
