How Jonathan failed to pick Obama’s Call
The culture of ignoring calls, a despicable attitude common with the political elite in Nigeria has cost President Goodluck Jonathan the opportunity of receiving a return call from the President of United States of America, Barrack Obama. According to the release made available to the public by the White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney, the US President has personally called all the world leaders that congratulated him on his re-election. However, President Jonathan’s name is conspicuously missing from the list of the leaders even though he was reported to have been among the first set of leaders to have congratulated President Obama. NigerianEcho gathered that Obama actually tried to return Jonathan’s call in at least two occasions particularly on Monday, 12th November, but sources close to the White House said Jonathan didn’t pick any of the calls.
Sources close to the Presidency in Nigeria insinuated that Jonathan didn’t pick the call because of telephone error. It would be recalled that Jonathan’s number was given to Obama by the US embassy in Nigeria and verified by the Nigerian embassy in Washington. Therefore there couldn’t have been a mistake in the telephone number. Meanwhile the Nigerian ambassador to the US, Professor Ade Adefuye has assured that Nigeria remains one of the top priorities of Obama’s administration and that the US president will visit Nigeria before the expiration of his second term.
