A popular businessman/politician and front-line financier of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the formative years of the party, Chief Harry Akande has been tipped to emerged as the Chairman of the board of trustees (BOT) of the party. Akande, who left the PDP some years back to actualise his dream of becoming the President of Nigeria on the platform of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP and contested in the presidential primaries of ANP in 2007 against Buhari has been favoured to emerge as the Chairman of the BOT of the ruling party.

Akande who left the ailing ANPP for the PDP before the 2011 general elections was part of the campaign trail of President Goodluck Jonathan. A leader of the party in the southwest, Akande was reported to have spent huge sum of money for the party in the last election. Considered to be straightforward, compassionate and highly intelligent, the choice of Akande by the leaders of the party was as a result of his contributions to the party. A leader of the party in Oyo State who craved anonymity said, ” Chief Akande is our choice because the position of BOT involves lots of power play and clout. It takes someone of his political stature to be able to steer the ship of the party.”

However, a source close to NigerianEcho also confirmed that former Minister of Works, Chief Tony Anenih and former chairman of PDP chief Amadu Alli are also jostling for the position. The duo who fell out of favour of former President Olusegun Obasanjo have been moving round the states to drum up supports for the top job. Observers have said that Chief Harry Akande needs to also move round the states if he must beat the old warhorse like Anenih and Alli who have always been in the game.
