Former Head of State, General Muhammad Buhari, has been urged by women to contest against President Goodluck Jonathan under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2015 Presidential Election.

The call came from members of the Grassroots Women Initiative (GWI), a women political group chaired by Hajiya Ambaru Wali, on Sunday in Daura during a solidarity rally organised in support of Buhari.

In her statement, Wali said the people of Daura emirate, Katsina state and all Nigerians are proud of Buhari and support him because of his proven integrity.

The chairman of the APC in Katsina State, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, also supported the call, saying Buhari is a trustworthy leader who can bring positive changes to Nigeria if elected.

He urged the citizens to exercise their civic rights by registering and voting in the 2015 general elections. He also said he hopes that APC would win the elections so as to carry out the plans the party have to move the country forward.

Inuwa also challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to endeavour to conduct free, fair and credible elections so as to sustain democracy in Nigeria. He also appealed to politicians vying for elective positions to put the interest of the country first and shun the use of political thugs during their campaigns.

In his response, Alhaji Nalado Yusuf, who represented Buhari at the occasion, promised to deliver the message to the APC chieftain.
