FG Recalls Suspended Security And Exchange Commission’s Director General
The Federal Government has recalled the suspended Director General (DG) of Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), Arunma Oteh. While justifying her recall, the Special Adviser to the President on Media, Dr. Reuben Abati said she has been cleared of any wrong doing. He said that the report of the external auditors that investigated the DG doesn’t find her guilty of any wrong doing. He however said that she was found guilty of some administrative laxity but not enough to sack her.
The House of Representative Committee on Security and Exchange Commission which recommended her dismissal has submitted its report to the leadership of the House. The House of Representative will debate the recommendations of the Committee tomorrow. The former House Committee Chairman, Hon. Hernan Hembe was accused of demanding for bribe from the SEC by Oteh; this led to the suspension of the whole Committee members by the House of Reps while new committee was set up to look into the allegation of misappropriation levelled against the DG. The DG of SEC was also suspended to allow for proper investigation of the matter. Workers of the agency demonstrated their dissatisfaction on the recall of Ms. oteh saying her recall was too sudden.
