Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Trains and Empowers 1,110 Small Holders Poultry Farmers in Nigeria.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning under National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy program have trained and empowered 1,110 smallholders poultry farmers across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The training and empowerment was held simultaneously in the 36 States of the federation and FCT.


Each beneficiary received Day Old Chicks, feeds and cash support to raise the broilers chicken to market weight. According to Dr. Deola Lordbanjou, the Director of Agricultural Extension Services in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Mr Tope Peter Fashedemi said the objective of the training and empowerment is to lift out of poverty the small holders poultry farmers in Nigeria by training them on modern technology of rearing broiler chicken and also arouse their interest in broiler production enterprise after the initial support from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. According to the Director, the inputs given are to encourage the farmers in sustainable poultry production having realized how profitable it is to engage in the business of broiler production.


Dr. Felix Okonkwo, the Director, Macro Economic Policy Department of the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning advised the 1,110 beneficiaries to see poultry farming as a business that is capable of providing sustained income for their families. He also said the Ministry will constantly monitor the beneficiaries on how the program is impacting their lives.
