Exodus Hits Fubara’s Government As Nine Commissioners loyal to Wike Resign
The crisis rocking Rivers State government took a new dimension on Wednesday as more Commissioners resigned. NigerianEcho reports that the political feud between Governor Similaye Fubara and his successor, Nyesome Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has remained intractable.
In December 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu waded into the crisis between the duo. That meeting only achieved a graveyard peace because the two and their supporters have now resorted to open hostility.
Five Commissioners have tendered their resignation to the Governor making it nine in total that have left the government. They are Commissioner for Education, Prince Chinedu; Commissioner for Housing, Gift Worlu; Commissioner for Social Welfare, Inime Aguma; Commissioner for Environment, Austen Ben-Chioma and Commissioner for Transport, Jacobson Nbina
Two Commissioners had earlier resigned after they were redeployed by Governor Sim Fubara. Isaac Kamalu resigned as commissioner after he was changed as the commissioner of Finance to the commissioner of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment. Zacchaeus Adangor resigned as commissioner after he was changed as the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Rivers State to the commissioner of Special Duties (Governor’s Office).
Two others resigned after they were given Federal Appointments by President Tinubu. Commissioner of Works, Dax George-Kelly resigned to take up his appointment as the Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA). While Emeka Woke resigned as Commissioner for Special Projects to take up his appointment as the CEO of Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.
