The African Democratic Congress, in Ogun State have labelled as embarrassing to the state, a video that has been circulating since Sunday.
In the trending video, agents of the APC could be seen handing over official government envelopes to people, with the old currencies in the region of N5,000 and N10,000; while assuring them that the monies are still valid tenders.
In a swift reaction on Monday, the ADC in a press release signed by the party’s spokesperson, Olumide Onabajo, condemned Governor Dapo Abiodun for engaging in advanced vote buying and embarrassing the State in the process.
According to Onabajo, “The ADC finds it disturbing, the circulating video of government officials and their agents, distributing monies to people across the state. It is more shameful when such a Greek gift was packaged in well-recognized official envelopes of the Governor and distributed publicly”.
“Ogun State citizens noted with disgust the news reportage of the ugly development which graced the front page of a national newspaper and also all over the social media. It is not under any doubt that the administration of Dapo Abiodun has lost all credibility with the people and has no tangible achievements to campaign with; hence the resort to vote-buying well ahead of time”.
The party further berated Abiodun for encouraging illegality by distributing the recently proscribed N1000 notes that have ceased to be legal tender.
“We are saddened that our state continues to be in the news for reasons that are adducible to the moral defects of the governor and his sinking party. Whereas, the CBN and indeed, President Buhari made categorical policy statements on the notes, Abiodun continues to defy the orders by expending the old notes unreservedly”.
“We have no doubt any longer that Dapo Abiodun has stockpiled billions of the old notes in preparation to buy the votes of the masses in the coming election and this explains his frustration at the potential of losing all that monies; hence the desperate and lavish distribution of the monies three weeks ahead of his election”.
The ADC stated that Abiodun’s act is most regrettable, urging the masses not to accept any form of inducement from the sinking party APC and reject them on March 11th, 2023.
“What the incoming administration under the leadership of Barrister Biyi Otegbeye is bringing is a promise to fix Ogun State, repair the broken system, create opportunities for all and build a system that ensures shared prosperity”; the party assured.
