Dangote Named 23rd Richest Man in the World

Forbes has released its 2014 edition of the annual Forbes Billionaires List and it features four Nigerians, with President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote emerging the 23rd richest man in the world.

The three other Nigerians who made the exclusive list are Mike Adenuga, Folorunsho Alakija and Abdulsamad Rabiu, who rate 325, 687, 1372 respectively on the list which consists of 1,645 billionaires across the globe with a combined worth of $6.4 trillion.

Dangote, who is Africa’s richest man for the third consecutive year, climbed up from the 43rd position he was last year to 23rd in March 2014 with a net worth of $25 billion – a 20 per cent rise from $20.8 billion he was worth as of December 2013.

Telecommunications guru and oil magnate, Dr. Mike Adenuga, who ranks second richest in Nigeria was number 267 in 2013 and now has an estimated net worth of $4.6 billion.

Oil and fashion billionaire Folorunsho Alakija, who ranks third and 13th in Nigeria and Africa respectively has a net worth of $2.5 billion, while Nigeria’s fourth and Africa’s 23rd richest, Abdulsamad Rabiu, CEO of BUA Group, makes his debut on the world Billionaires List at 1,372 with a worth of $1.2 billion.

Meanwhile, Bill Gates of Microsoft Corp. is back on top after a four year absence, with a Net worth of $76 billion. He reclaimed the title from telecoms mogul, Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico, who is now number 2 with a net worth of $72 billion. Amancio Ortega sits at number 3 with a Net Worth of $64 billion thanks to retail, while number four man Warren Buffett is now worth $58.2 B.
