COP28: NIGERIA BECOMES MEMBER OF AFRICA GREEN HYDROGEN ALLIANCE
Nigeria at COP28 today Wednesday 6th December, 2023 signed up to become a member of the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA), a multi – country platform to promote collaboration with the Private Sector, Development Finance Institutions and Civil Society to mobilise green hydrogen production for domestic use and export.
Major energy transition pathways have identified green hydrogen as the most credible solution available today for decarbonizing heavy industry and transport sectors.
The Honourable Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako who represented Nigeria at the ceremony welcoming Nigeria into the alliance in his acceptance speech reiterated the position of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR in ensuring that all foreign alliances drives transfer of technologies, local capacity building and job creation especially for the teeming Nigerian youths who he described as industrious, innovative and upwardly mobile.
Nigeria’s membership of the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance is expected to further open the door for new investments to drive Nigeria in the trajectory of sustainable energy driven economy and in the path towards the 2060 net zero commitment.
