Amosun’s wife decorated as Patron of Trefoil Guild Nigeria
Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, wife of the former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, was on Friday decorated as Patron of the Trefoil Guild Nigeria, a senior arm of the Nigeria Girl Guides Association.
The investiture, which took place in Abeokuta during the 4th Annual and 1st International Conference of the Guild, was in recognition of her longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes and girl-child development.
In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Amosun expressed gratitude to the Association for the honour, describing it as a call to greater service, pledging to continue supporting initiatives that empower girls, uplift women, and strengthen the Guiding movement.
According to her, the mission of the Girl Guides—to nurture bold, independent, and community-spirited young women—aligns with the work of her personal initiative, the UPLIFT Development Foundation.
Speaking on the conference theme, “Embracing the Future: Innovation and Leadership in Guiding,” Mrs. Amosun emphasized that true leadership is measured not by titles but by sacrifice, responsibility, and solutions that transform communities.
She urged the Association to design programmes that tackle contemporary challenges, including poverty, unemployment, gender inequality, and the urgent need for digital and financial literacy.
“I call on the Trefoil Guild and the Girl Guides Association to give particular attention to the girl-child, especially those in rural communities.
“Let us equip them with quality education, mentorship, and opportunities that will make them value-driven, globally competitive, and prepared for tomorrow,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola, hailed the choice of Mrs. Amosun as Patron, describing her as a personality of proven worth and influence.
He encouraged the Guild to intensify efforts in mentoring girls to build strong character and moral values.
The highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of an award for committed service to Mrs. Amosun by the Chief Commissioner, Deaconess Rhoda Thomas, alongside the Country Chair, Dr. Christie Toby, and other executives of the Association.
