Adamawa Assembly Orders Arrest Of 4 Commissioners

Adamawa State House of Assembly on Thursday ordered the arrest of four commissioners over their alleged failure to respond to summons to appear before it.

The commissioners are Mrs Lucy Ishaku (Agriculture), Mrs Lilian Stephen (Health), Alhaji Ahmed Gorko (Commerce), and Alhaji Abdulrahman Shuaibu (Lands and Survey).

The House had summoned the commissioners, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and the Accountant-General of the state to appear before it on Wednesday over the implementation of the 2013 budget.

The summons followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Public Accounts on the 2013 budget.

At the sitting presided over by Deputy Speaker Kwamoti Laori, the lawmakers directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the four commissioners for failing to honour the order to appear before it.

The commissioners are to be brought before the House on Monday at 10.00 a.m.

Also to appear before the House is the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Kobis Thimnu, who sent a letter apologising for his inability to appear on Thursday.

The commissioners for finance and works, Alhaji Ibrahim Vokna, and Mr Umaru Atiku respectively, and the Accountant-General, Malam Nasir Mohammed, appeared before the House on Thursday. (NAN)
