ACN Denies Involvement In The Protest That Greeted The Renaming Of UNILAG

Sharing is caring!

The Action Congress of Nigeria, CAN, has denied being involved in the  protest that greeted the renaming of the University Of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University. This position was made known by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Muhammed. He accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of playing to the gallery.

He said, ” the PDP should blame itself for its government that decided to do a good thing in an illegal manner”. He added that the renaming was done in bad faith. He wondered how ACN would be accused of “fuelling” a protest that it knew nothing about. He took swipe at the party for reducing late MKO Abiola to a sectional symbol. Muhammed said Abiola, the winner of the June 12 1993 presidential elections who was voted massively by majority of Nigerian people represents a national symbol.  Abiola died in the custody of the military junta in the struggle to actualise his mandate. He was arrested by the administration of the military ruler, Gen. Sanni Abacha.
