3 killed, Several Injured At Amosun’s Town Hall Meeting As Rain Storm Wrecks Havoc In Ilaro
Tragedy hit the headquarters of Yewa South Local Government, Ilaro today, as three people lost their lives while several others sustained various degrees of injuries. The sad event occurred at the Empire ground, the venue of Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s Town Hall meeting which was organised to mark his first year in office.
A giant canopy which was mounted outside the Gateway Multi-purpose Hall on Empire ground had people who could not find space inside the hall waiting for Governor Amosun. Tragedy occurred when the canopy collapsed due to the heavy rain storm.
Three people died on the spot while several others sustained injuries. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of the general hospital, Ilaro while the injured are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Before the tragic incident, many youths who were alleged to be protesters who came to express their grievances against the governor for imposing one Shafiu Odebiyi as the candidate of the Party in the forth coming Local government elections. The man, according to the youth is known to be one of Amosun’s stooges since the days of ANPP. The youths were seated under the aegis of “Yewa Youth Say No to IMPOSITION”.
Though some members of the party who spoke to NigerianEcho under the condition of anonymity revealed that the most popular candidate of ACN who many thought should be given the ticket is Hon. Babatunde Olaotan, a medical practitioner who used to live in Canada.
One of the party’s faithful who identified himself as Wale Ajibola alleged that the governor is a ritualist who is on a mission to use his antagonists as spiritual atonement to ease his dwindling popularity in the State. “My brother Amosun is a disaster to ACN and Ogun state at large, those guys were just seated trying to display placards that they are against imposition of candidate for the forthcoming Local Government election and now they are gone, the sad part of it is that our governor did not even deem it fit to check on them at the hospital. One thing I am sure of is that their blood will definitely speak”. The man stuttered amid sobs.
Though the Town Hall meeting couldn’t hold as a result of the sad event, Governor Amosun who got to Ilaro moments after the tragic even only commissioned a one kilometre road in Sabo area to mark his one year in office.
Meanwhile, the State’s owned football club, Gateway FC’s bus was involved in an accident today. NigerianEcho gathered that five of the people were critically injured. They are receiving treatment at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital.
NigerianEcho correspondent in Abeokuta called the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Funmi Wakama. She didn’t pick her call nor respond to the SMS sent to her
