Yayi Football Competition Final Holds Today

The Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, HRH Oba Kehinde Olugbenle MFR, Hon(Dr) Adejare(member House of Reps), Alhaji Ganiyu A. Majekodunmi, Chairman, Ogun State Football Association, Traditional Rulers in Yewaland, Otunba Akeem Adigun(SOCOPAO), Chief Adewale Adesina(Babaloja of Yewaland), Alhaji Ibraheem Egungbohun(Chairman, IBD Hotels, Dende), Chief(Hon) Mufutau Ajibola(Chairman, Ogun SUBEB), Engr Yinka Akintonmide, and all Yewa LG Executive Chairmen are among dignitaries expected to grace the final of the maiden YAYI Cup Competition, which holds today at Gateway International Stadium, Ilaro.

‎The third place match between Oke-Odan Football Club and Ebute-Igbooro Football Club will precede the final between Igbogila FC and Ilaro FC scheduled to start at 2.30pm today.

To reach the final, Igbogila FC defeated Ebute-Igbooro FC 1-0 while Ilaro FC defeated Oke-Odan FC 4-3 (Penalty) in the semi-finals.

Abiodun Elegbede, coordinator, Yayi Cup, said that all logistics had been put in place to make the event a memorable one as dignitaries from all walks of life would be at the stadium.

Elegbede lauded Yayi Foundation for sponsoring the grass roots tournament which serves as a platform for youngsters to exhibit their skills adding that, it is through this kind of competition that talented players could be easily discovered and groomed to become professional footballers in the near future.

The winners of the tournament will go home with N350, 000 as prize money with a giant cup while the second and third placed teams will earn N250, 000 and N150, 000 respectively. The fourth place will also receive N100,000.

Other towns that participated in the tournament are; Igan-Okoto, Ayetoro, Imeko, Idogo, Lasilo, Olorulekan, Owode, Oja-Odan, Alapoti, Keu-Adie-Owe, Imasayi and Abule-Iroko.
