Xabi Alonso Nears Move to Bayern Munich
Real Madrid Midfielder, Xabi Alonso is due to join German champions, Bayern Munich, on a two-year deal worth around £8m.
The Bundesliga club revealed via their official Twitter account that the former Spain International will have a medical examination at Bayern on Thursday as talks between the two clubs continue.
Bayern’s manager, Pep Guardiola, is believed to have sought Alonso, who still has two years left on his contract at Madrid, after the departure of Toni Kroos and the knee-ligament injury suffered by Javi Martínez.
Although Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has repeatedly stated the 32-year-old’s importance to the Spanish side, the arrival of Kroos provided major competition for Alonso.
Alonso was on the bench in Madrid’s opening league game of the season against Cordoba on Monday and it’s imminent that he will emulate former teammate, Angel di Maria, and move away from La Liga.
