World Teachers’ Day Celebration : Amosun Reinstates Sacked Workers
Ogun State Government has announced the recall of some workers in the state that were dismissed over their alleged unethical roles, during the 2016 World Teachers Day celebration, held on October 5.
The Head of Service, Sola Adeyemi, MNI, in a statement made available to news men in Abeokuta on Tuesday , said that 19 other workers suspended were equally recalled.
On October 31, thirty-five workers were sacked based on a report said to have been submitted by a Panel of Investigation. The state Government had set up a panel to investigate the roles of these workers as a result of a petition written by “Concerned Members of the Public “.
The workers, according to the report of the panel, were said to have committed various infractions of the Public Service Rules.
While the former workers were directed to resume duty on January 2, 2017, the latter were asked to return to work next week Monday.
The Head of Service explained that the affected workers were recalled following interventions by the national and local leaderships of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), traditional rulers, religious leaders, elders and well-meaning personalities.
Adeyemi noted that the cases of the remaining four dismissed workers, including the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Akeem Ambali; the state chairman NUT, Dare Ilekoya, Eniola Atiku and Nola Balogun were still undergoing evaluation.
“Following these interventions, government decided to revisit the matter and consequently set up machinery to carry out a case-by-case evaluation of the affected workers for the purpose of reviewing the sanctions after a careful consideration of the report at the conclusion of the review exercise.
“Government on compassionate grounds decided to immediately pardon 31 of the concerned workers”, Adeyemi said.
