Wike inaugurates Committee as Port Harcourt Prepares to Host International Matches

Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Friday inaugurated an organising committee ahead of two international football matches due to be hosted in Port Harcourt in July.

During the event which held at Government House in Port Harcourt, Wike said the matches would be an opportunity to promote the state as a safe place for business and sports.

He said: “The approval of the hosting of the matches in Port Harcourt by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is an indication of the confidence the football body has in the state.

“We must ensure that the matches are successful and played under a secured atmosphere,” he said.

He urged the committee to resume preparations immediately and ensure the upcoming events are successful.

The matches are Super Falcons versus Equatorial Guinea on July 18, and the Dream Team VI versus Congo’s under-23 male national team on July 19.
