The University of Ibadan students’ community has expressed its unflinching support for the Governor Abiola Ajimobi administration in Oyo State, saying that tertiary institutions have never had it so good.

The President of the institution’s students’ union government, Mr. Victor Odesola, stated this in Ibadan on Thursday when he led his colleagues on a solidarity visit to Governor Ajimobi in his office. “The Students’ Union has never had it so good. We have enjoyed the support of this administration more than any previous administration in Oyo State. It is our joy that the Ajimobi administration had a blessing to us all at the University of Ibadan,’’ he said. Odesola said that the entire students of the institution would continue to support Governor Ajimobi whom he described as students-friendly.

In his remarks, Governor Ajimobi said that his government would not relent in its efforts at repositioning the state and restoring its lost glory, particularly in the education sector. The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Alake
Adeyemo, said that his administration had continued to support the institution, notwithstanding its status as a federal  government-owned university, in order to demonstrate its interest in the development of education in the state.
He said that his administration would continue to strengthen the cordial relationship already existing between the university and the state government.

While soliciting the support of the students for his administration, Governor Ajimobi said that he would continue to maintain the existing peace and tranquility in the state even in the face of the latest onslaught by those he called enemies of the state. Governor Ajimobi charged students of the tertiary institutions in the state not to allow themselves to be involved in violent activities in the state, especially as the 2015 elections draw near.
Meanwhile, the state government is set to introduce additional 500 tricycles to ease transportation problems in the state and create employment opportunities for more people. Governor Ajimobi stated this while addressing members of Three-wheeler
Operators Association who were on a courtesy call to him in his office.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Ismail Olalekan Alli, the governor expressed his administration’s desire to create a conducive business environment for the people of the state. He said most of the roads within the state were being rehabilitated to ensure that commercial vehicles were used for a long period of time to yield maximum returns for the operators. The governor also counseled the operators not to engage in any act of thuggery or violence, while also urging to them constitute themselves into cooperative societies so as to benefit from the interest-free loans of the state government.
“Everything humanly possible would be done to cater for the welfare of the citizens of Oyo State. You should also continue to support this administration in our efforts at repositioning the state,’’ he said. The Secretary of the association, Mr. Dele Kolawole appealed for the provision of more tricycles to serve as employment opportunities for his members.
