WAEC Withholds Results of Ogun Students Over Indebtedness As Government Fails To Remit Fees
Palpable anxiety has now gripped parents of Secondary school students in Ogun state who sat for this year’s West African Examination Council (WAEC) Examination following the non-release of the results of the students by the regional exam body.
WAEC decision follows the alleged failure of the state government to remit the WAEC fees of the students. WAEC released the results of the examination it conducted in May/June Early in the week. Although each student that sat for the examination paid N28,000, findings by NigerianEcho reveals that no student in the state paid less than N35,000 for the Examination.
They paid in their various schools who in turn sent the money to the state ministry of education, Oke Mosan for onward bulk payment to WAEC. However when the results of the examination were released, WAEC withheld the results of students in public secondary schools on the ground that they are INDEBTED. Two results printed out by bewildered students clearly show WAEC printing INDEBTED before each of the results rather than the scores.
The development has caused panic and anxiety in several homes as parents found it strange why their wards could pay in their schools only to be told it is still indebted to WAEC. Efforts by NigerianEcho to get the state commissioner for Education to comment on the development failed as he didn’t respond to messages sent to his phone nor pick his calls.
