Valdes to Undergo Medicals at Liverpool
Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes is set to secure a move to Premier League side Liverpool.
The Spanish international became a free agent after leaving the Catalans at the end of last season, following the expiration of his contract. He suffered a torn cruciate ligament earlier in what was his last match for the club, subsequently missing the World Cup in Brazil.
The 32-year-old underwent a medical with French side Monaco earlier in the summer, but the club did not sign Valdes after he failed medicals, showing his recovery from the knee injury was incomplete.
Valdes may now join last season’s EPL title contenders, Liverpool, on a free transfer as he is near a full recovery. The transfer deadline does not apply given that Valdes is a free agent.
It is believed that manager Brendan Rodgers wants to provide some competition for Simon Mignolet after selling Pepe Reina to Bayern Munich this summer.
He is due to undergo tests with the Reds once his knee is totally healed, and may be their tenth new signing since the end of last season.
