US Marine Trains 100 Nigerian Soldiers
One hundred Nigerian soldiers have graduated from the Amphibious Training School (ATS) Calabar, after undergoing a three-week rigorous competence and warfare training exercise spearheaded by the United State of America US Marine Corp Africa Training Team. The soldiers were trained in the area of assault landing, fire team formation, dis-embankments, casualty evacuation, micro terrain, planning preparation for combat, mission planning insertion, extraction of troops to riverine areas, and patrol of muddy beaches. Major-General Bamidele Ologundudu, Director of Training Army Headquarters, Abuja who stood in for the Chief of Army Staff at the Grand Finale of the training engagement between the Nigerian Army and the United State of America (US) Marine Corps Africa on Amphibious Warfare, representative of the Chief of Army Staff, Director of Training Army Headquarters Abuja, said that rewards would now be given to soldiers with high excellence and gallantry performance in the course of discharging their duties. On why the soldiers embarked on the training, he submitted that the exercise was intended to afford the soldiers the opportunity not only to have competence on the job, but to manage and carry out coastal areas operations to quell down all forms of aggressors which are likely to brew up at regular intervals at the nations riverine area. Major General Ologundudu said the training came at the right and showed the importance of the training school that is the only institution in Nigeria that provides military personnel with the skills needed to carry out an amphibian operation.
