US-based NGO boosts AMACOS humanitarian initiatives with N1.5m grant
After God Heart Inc., a non-governmental organization based in Indiana, the United States, has extended a N1.5 million grant to boost the humanitarian efforts of the Alumni of Mass Communication Students (AMACOS) of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Ojere Abeokuta.
The grant, according to the NGO, is a demonstration of its alignment with the noble aspiration of the alumni association to scale up their capacity building, economic empowerment and education programmes.
In the letter of the award to the Alumni association, the Co-founder/President of the benefactor organization, Mrs. M. Olawale, said the donation is to support AMACOS Alumni effort to improve the lives of their members and the surrounding community.
According to the Co-founder of After God’s Heart, “When you establish a system, sustainability follows. “We are proud to support the efforts of the AMACOS 94-99 group. Their structure is not only distinctive but also a model that can be emulated by similar groups globally. Their heart for community outreach stems from an unwavering commitment to each other’s well-being, which is a living testament to the potency of an intentionally nurtured community. This aligns perfectly with the mission of ‘After God’s Heart’ to address the vast ocean of needs worldwide. It’s an honor to collaborate with such an organization”. Olawale affirmed.
The grant as provided by the NGO is expected to cover three key areas of the Alumni’s initiative, including grant of N200,000 each for three members of the Association to expand their business operations; N500,000 is designated to be added to the Association’s MSMEs Seed Loan initiative and N400,000 as support for Final year Secondary students as examinations’ support fees.
Receiving the grant, the AMACOS Alumni President, Moruff Adenekan, thanked the After God Heart Foundation for their thoughtfulness and magnanimity which led them to identify with the Alumni association and for making the donation.
“On behalf of the Alumni of Mass Communication Students of MAPOLY, I commend and thank the After God Heart Foundation for identifying with us in this journey seeking the betterment of the society, one person at a time. This Foundation’s gesture is especially appreciated given the current downturn that has become today’s global economic reality. I must confess that this grant will go a long way in helping to ameliorate the hardship being experienced by many families. We pray that the good Lord will continue to replenish the purse of your outreach.”
He assured the NGO that the association will deploy the grant strictly for what it was intended for. “AMACOS has in place a strong corporate governance stance which will ensure that every agreement as spelt out by the terms of the partnership between it and the Foundation will be adhered to. So, we assure you of our strong commitment to the disbursement of the various sums as communicated and agreed in principle.”
Adenekan recalled that the Alumni association inaugurated a capacity building and MSMEs expansion initiative up targeting over N10m in January 2024. The initiative includes disbursements of seed capital to start or expand beneficiaries’ businesses, Healthcare Initiative for indigent Members, Payment of scholarships to indigent students in secondary schools in the Alumni’s host Community (Ojere, Abeokuta)
and capacity building for members.
The ’94 – ’99 Alumni of the Department of Mass Communication of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Ojere, Abeokuta is the convergence of the Alumni of the Department of Mass Communication of the then Ogun State Polytechnic which was later rechristened Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
