The United Nations Refugee Agency has addressed the plight of Nigeria’s internally displaced persons, promising to work with the National Emergency Management Agency and provide intense trauma counselling for the victims of insurgency.

The Regional Representative of UNHCR, Liz Kpam Ahua, during a news conference in Abuja on Thursday, commended the country for catering well for its 1.4 million internally displaced persons and urged them to also provide security.

According to the organisation, security challenges in some states might disrupt the assistance being provided.

The UNHCR also rued continuous attacks by the Boko Haram sect in the north east and neighbouring countries, saying it continues to fuel large scale displacement in the country.
