UN boundary adjustment: Nigeria may lose Obudu resort, Agbokim waterfalls to Cameroon – Ndoma-Egba
AGAINST the backdrop of the alleged ongoing boundary adjustment between Nigeria and Cameroon by the United Nations as a result of the International Court of Justice judgment that ceded the oil-rich Bakassi Peninsula to the Cameroon, the Senate leader, Chief Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has raised the alarm that if nothing was urgently done, Nigeria would lose most of its tourists sites to Cameroon.
Senator Ndoma-Egba who disclosed this to journalists in Abuja, Wednesday, also gave reasons why the national assembly especially the present senate has been having friendly relationship with the executive. Stressing that world over the senate acts as a stabilizer of the polity in conflict situations.
Last week there was tension in Cross River State over the presence of the United Nations Boundary Adjustment Team led by Mr.Isaac Baya of Zimbabwe in company o f Nigerian soldiers at Danari, a boundary community between Nigeria and Cameroonin Boki local government area to implement the Green Tree Agreement from the Bakassi judgment.
Speaking on the allegation that Nigeria would lose about eight local government areas, Senator Ndoma-Egba sated, “Well there is some boundary delineation exercise going on as a result of the Green Tree Agreement which was the consequence of the judgment of the International Court of Justice on what we call Bakassi.
“The Green Tree Agreement necessitated some boundary adjustments and that exercise started somewhere from lake Chad and it supposed to go right down to the Atlantic Ocean in the South, so the exercise is going on but in a place called Danari, in Boki Local Government in my constituency.
