UCL: PSG Shock Barcelona with 3-2 Win, Totti Sets Goal Scoring Record
Despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s absence due to injury, Paris Saint-Germain served Barcelona a 3-2 defeat, their first of the season under their new coach Luis Enrique.
Goals from David Luiz, Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi saw PSG cruise to a win. Although Barcelona responded with goals from Lionel Messi and Neymar, the catalans could not find an equaliser and have now lost their spot on top of Group F to PSG.
In the other Group F match, Ajax continued their European campaign with a frustrating 1-1 draw at APOEL Nicosia to sit in third place on the group table with 2 points.
In Group E’s clashes, Bayern Munich won CSKA Moscow 1-0 thanks to a Thomas Muller penalty while Roma’s Francesco Totti became the oldest goalscorer in Champions League history at 38 as he evened out Manchester City’s goal through Sergio Aguero’s early penalty at the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic scored a first-half header at Sporting Lisbon which was enough to record a first victory of Group G. Meanwhile, Schalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored in the second half to cancel out Damjan Bohar’s effort for Maribor from the opening period. The 1-1 draw left both sides on exactly the same number of goals scored, conceded and points.
Group H matches saw Porto secure a point away against Shakhtar Donetsk, with a late Jackson Martinez brace securing a 2-2 draw for the Portuguese giants. BATE Borisov produced a surprising, but deserved, 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in the first Champions League game at the Borisov Arena.
