Two Fraudsters Arraigned For Forgery And Impersonation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today November 2, 2016 arraigned the duo of Samuel Abiodun Oluwagbemi and Oladokun Seun before Justice O.H. Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court Ikeja on a four count charge bordering on impersonation, conspiracy and forgery.
An anonymous petition received by the commission in 2011 regarding some illegal dealings of the first accused Samuel Oluwagbemi led to the investigation which ultimately resulted in his arrest at a new generation bank while he was using a fake Identity card to collect money via western Union transfer from the bank. The picture on the identity card was that of a female face and he presented it to the second accused Oladokun Seun, a 31 -year -old graduate banker who attended to him.
It was later discovered that Seun, was the mastermind the scam. He would tell the first accused to produce fake identity cards for his clients, whom he claimed were people he could no longer reach.
One of the counts read, ‘that you Samuel Abiodun Oluwagbemi and Oladokun Seun on or about the 22nd day of January, 2011 in Lagos within the Lagos Judicial Division with intent to defraud forged the Federal Republic of Nigeria Independent National Electoral Commission Voter’s Card in the name of Adesina Raliat Edeki of No16 Oguntona street, Aguda Ogba, Lagos State and purported the said Voter Card to have been issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 467 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003’.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
In view of their plea the prosecution counsel Mustapha Aliyu asked for a trial date and also requested the accused to be remanded in prison.
Justice Oshodi however, granted the first and second defendants bail in the sum of one million Naira each, with two sureties in like sum.
He however remanded the defendants in Kirikiri Prison pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions and subsequently adjourned the matter till December 6, 2016 for trial.
