Two APC Registration Officers Kidnapped in Ebonyi State
Two registration officers of the All Progressives Congress involved in membership registration for the APC in Ezza North LGA, Donatus Omenyi and Moses Anyior, were on Saturday kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Ebonyi State.
They were kidnapped from their respective homes at about 2 a.m. The kidnappers are said to have contacted the family’s of the victims and demanded N2 million for their release.
One of the victims’ wives said that over five armed men invaded their home and whisked her husband away, stating that the gunmen were led by the younger brother of the council chairman whom she identified as Okay Ogbu. According to her, they threatened to deal with her husband and demanded ransom, unless he “forget the APC”.
The House of Representatives Member representing Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency, Peter Edeh, confirmed the incident and said they are doing everything to secure the release of the victims. He attributed the incident to the political intolerance in the community. He pleaded with APC supporters to remain calm on the grounds that the party is working hard to rescue the kidnapped officers.
Police spokesman in the state, ASP Chris Anyanwu, said he was aware of the incident but yet to be officially briefed on the matter.
