TRAILER PARK: OGUN GIVES OWNERS OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES 24 HRS TO RELOCATE
Ogun State government has given owners of illegal structures and make shift shops within the Gateway Trailer Park, Ogere along the Lagos /Ibadan Expressway 24hour ultimatum to remove such structures.
Alhaji Ola-Ayo Ogunsolu, General Manager, Parks and Garages Development Board (PAGADEB), Ogun State, gave the order yesterday with warning that, anyone who failed to abide with the directive would have his shop demolished.
Ogunsolu was inspecting the extent of the damage done by a fire incident which occurred last Saturday in the location when he discovered that shops were arbitrarily erected.
The PAGADEB GM revealed that, government was looking into ways of improving and uplifting amenities within the park to ensure smooth operations and service delivery.
He submitted further that such an effort should not be thwarted by the actions of some people who just erected their shops indiscriminately without considering likely effects in case of emergencies like the fire outbreak.
“Government will not fold its arms watching some people causing damages to its properties, because we have been exploring possible avenue of providing a lasting solution at upgrading infrastructural facilities in the park. Already government is talking to investors on how to have long lasting infrastructures in place. I hereby urge occupants of all illegal structures and shanty operators to vacate the premises within 24hours or be made to face the wrath of law.” Ogunsolu ordered.
He opined that the responsibility of government does not stop with making security arrangements for the protection of properties against thefts, but also to forestall any act that could endanger lives within the Trailer Park, assuring that his Board would not be found wanting in this respect at all times.
Speaking at the scene, the Police Officer in charge of the Trailer Park area, ASP Ephraim Beberes, pledged the readiness of his men to collaborate with PAGADEB to maintain law and order within the park and its immediate environs as well as ensure safety of lives and property at any point in time.
The leader of the Hausa community in the Park, Alhaji Sanu Naka while lamenting about the loss of properties recorded during the inferno, pledged to join hands with other stake holders in unravelling its cause and bring culprits to book and appealed that the ultimatum given be extended.
