Torres’ Brace fires Chelsea to the Top

The Play-offs for Groups E-H continued last night across Europe with no match ending without a goal.

Chelsea returns to top Group E after beating second place FC Schalke 04 0 – 3 at home,with Fernando Torres scoring 2 of the Torresgoals and Eden Hazard completing the trio. Basel stands in 3rd place with 4 points after a 1-1 draw with Steaua Bucharest.

In Group F,the “Group of Death” tag is beginning to come true as Arsenal FC,Borussia Dortmund and Napoli have 6 points each. 2nd placed Arsenal lost 1-2 at the Emirates stadium to 1st placed Dortmund. Mkhitaryan netted a goal in for the Germans in an early 16 minutes, AFC’s Giroud replied in the 41st minute but that wasn’t enough as Lewandowski sealed their fate in the 82nd minute. Napoli beat Marseilles 1-2 in France to secure the 3rd place spot in the group.

Group G is headed by Athletico Madrid,who are the only team so far to have won all 3 of their UEFA games. They beat FK bottom-placed Austria Wien 0 – 3 to stand at 9 points,followed by Zenit St Petersburg who beat 10-man FC Porto 1-0.

Group H matches has 1st placed FC Barcelona at first place with 7 points after a 1-1 draw with 5-points owners, AC Milan in San Siro. Celtic beat Ajax 2-1 to secure a third place stand.

More UEFA action continues tonight as play-offs for Groups A-D continue.

In Group A, Real Sociedad will visit Manchester United at Old Trafford while Bayer 04 Leverkusen hosts Shakhtar Donetsk

Group B will see group leaders,Real Madrid play hosts to Italians,Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu. Galatasaray will also host FC Kbenhavn at the same time.

In Group C, RSC Anderlecht will host first-place Paris Saint Germain while Olympiakos visit Benfica.

Group D will have current UEFA champions,FC Bayern Munchen play Viktoria Plzen in Germany and CSKA Moscow host EPL champions,Manchester City.
