Teenage mom charged with manslaughter over death of her 20-month-old daughter ‘who was left all alone in a flat for six days’
A teenage mum has been charged with manslaughter over the death of her infant daughter who was left all alone in a flat for six days.
Verphy Kudi, 18, broke down in tears as she appeared in front of Brighton magistrates on Monday, October 19, after the death of her child, Asiah, in December last year.
Magistrates in Brighton heard she left the baby all alone at her home in Islingword Road, Brighton for six days.
Asiah was taken from the address to the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in an ambulance. She was confirmed dead soon after arriving at the hospital.
A post-mortem examination and subsequent further forensic tests found that Asiah’s death had resulted from neglect, the court heard.
Jeremy King for the CPS told the court that Kudi was filmed on CCTV arriving at her flat on December 5 2019, with her daughter but later left without her before returning to the building on December 11, six days later.’
Miss Kudi. of no fixed address, appeared by video link at Brighton Magistrates’ Court only to confirm her name and understand the charge against her.
She was remanded to appear at Crown Court next month.
