Taraba State House of Assembly confirms Former Deputy Governor as New Acting Governor
Members of the Taraba State House of Assembly have confirmed the appointment of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Sanni Danladi as the acting governor of the state.
Alhaji Danladi had been formerly appointed to the office two years ag, after the former governor was involved in a plane crash but he was impeached by the House.
Joseph Alkinjo, the Majority Leader of the house, on Tuesday, moved the motion for the confirmation of Danladi as acting governor, reminding the house of how the governor was involved in a plane crash, and saying it was only relevant for the House to adhere to the 21-day provision of the Constitution, by allowing the deputy governor to assume the position of the acting governor.
Another member of the House, Istlifanu Gbana, supported his motion, saying that since the court had declared the position null and void, there was no point delaying the confirmation of Danladi as acting governor.
He said, “This is a legal issue and it is technical, whosoever sat on that seat (Acting Governor) before, did that wrongly. We must go back to the drawing board and make correction.”
