The Taraba State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, has said it will continue its three-month-old strike if the state government does not give it the N100 million cash it promised.

The chairman of the union, Dr Reuben Jonathan, said this in Jalingo in response to a call by the present government, urging the union to suspend the strike.

The past administration had earlier in March, given the union cheque for N100 million as part payment for the lecturers’ outstanding allowances of over N400 million, but it bounced when the lecturers tried to cash it.

Jonathan said the strike would continue unless the present administration was ready to meet part of its demands while negotiation continued.

ASUU’s demands include improvement in the welfare of the institution’s staff and infrastructure development in the university.
