Super Eagles end 2014 in 43rd spot on FIFA Ranking
The Super Eagles have dropped to the 43rd place in the last FIFA ranking for 2014. The national team is ninth in Africa now.
The Eagles started the year at 41st place in January after a 2-1 defeat to Mali in the African Nations Championship game. In February, they fell six places to 47th. They were 47th again in March due to a goalless draw with Mexico in an international friendly.
Stephen Keshi’s men however moved up the ladder to 45th place in April and in May, they occupied the 44th spot in the world and sixth in Africa, holding the spot after the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in June.
Nigeria had their biggest progress in July, climbing ten places to the 34th spot, then moved up to 33rd spot in August. In September, however, they crashed four places to 37th position in the world and declined five spots in October and maintained the same position in November 2014.
World champions Germany topped the final ranking of the year for the second time since 1993, while South American giants Argentina and Colombia finished in second and third place respectively.
Algeria ended 2014 as the best team in Africa followed by Tunisia and Cote d’Ivoire while the Black Stars of Ghana were adjudged they fifth best team in Africa and are also ranked 37th in the world.
